Trans-Ozark Trail – Day 4
January 15, 2023
Miles Today/ Total: 13.7/ 55.1
Today’s theme was waterfalls. As the trail wound through the Arkansas Ozarks it led past views of no less than 6 waterfalls. Some were just drizzles but some created nice falls. I made pretty good time this morning and stopped for lunch around 12:30. Shortly after starting back again I rolled my ankle when a rock buried in the leaves rolled out from under my left foot. It hurt pretty bad but fortunately didn’t swell up much. I pushed on but was barely able to put any weight on my left ankle. After about 2 hours of limping through the woods and covering less than 2 miles, I made the decision to get off trail at the next road crossing – Lick Branch Trailhead. I contacted my friend Rob Julpino on my InReach and he was able to hook me up a ride with Michael Teer into Fayetteville. Thanks to both of them for their efforts.
Unfortunately this is the end of this adventure, but I was impressed with the OHT and definitely want to try it again in the future.
