Te Araroa Trail – Day 45-46
Monday & Tuesday, December 18-19, 2023
Distance/ Total: 4.8 km / 3.0 mi
I slept in Monday morning and finally left the motel a little after 8:00 am. I had less than 5km to Taumarunui Canoe Hire where I would find out if I was able to get on the Whanganui River before the Christmas holidays.
I arrived a little after 9:00 am and Andi was waiting for me to book the huts needed for the trip. He had arrived Sunday afternoon and booked us in for the first available trip on December 20th. We booked the huts and then finalized our canoe booking with the canoe hire.
The afternoon and evening was spent visiting with other hikers and bikers waiting for their canoe trips as well.
Tuesday we got a ride back into Taumarunui to pick up one extra day of food (since we would arrive in Whanganui on Dec 24 and most everything will be closed on the 25th). We ate a delicious Indian lunch and picked up our extra groceries before catching the afternoon bus back out to Taumarunui Canoe Hire.
We started packing our barrels with what we weren’t using to camp and visited with a new set of hikers that came in today.
