PCT – Day 2
Friday, May 3, 2024
Miles Today / Total: 21.8 / 39.5
Ascent / Descent: 4,357/ -1,752
Starting Point: Morena Butte
Ending Point: Campsite in pine trees
I woke up a little before 6:00am and it was already daylight. The tent was really wet with condensation and I had to wipe it down before packing up. I ended up getting back on the trail a little before 7:00am.
The temps were cool when I started, but it didn’t take long to heat up. There was a light breeze blowing in the morning that made the temperature feel nice.
I had camped near the top of the pass and when I reached the top I had a good view of Lake Morena. The trail descended down to Lake Morena Village and past the campground there. The trail cleared bed up over a mountain before dropping back down and crossing under Hwy 80 and I-8.
The trail continued the ups and downs through the day as the temperature heated up. The terrain today was still in the mountains, but there were very few trees to escape from the afternoon sun.
I reached a small pine forest about 5:45 and found a nice tent spot under the pine trees. I cooked dinner and retired to my tent as dusk approached.
